During the period of the Soviet regime, the trade was controlled by the state, and the fairs were closed. Only in 1966 Sorochintsy became the initiator of the revival of fairs in Ukraine, and today each year at the end of August participants from Ukraine and many other countries gather here to trade and have fun.

International competition of caricatures «Karluka»

It has become a good tradition for the citizens of Poltava and numerous visitors of the city to organize the international competition of caricatures «Karluka»on April 1. The works are sent to the jury by the participants from all post Soviet countries, as well as the artists from the countries of Europe.

Poltava became a cradle of the great people — writers, poets, who left a rich cultural heritage. Today young talented people from Ukraine gather annually at the rock-festival Mazepa-Fest, which takes place in early June in Poltava at the Pevchee Pole.
